Locking; originally called Campbellocking, is a soul dance from the 1970’s. Created by Don “Campbellock” Campbell in the clubs of Los Angeles, it involves using strong quick arm movements (points, and wrist rolls) and dynamic pauses (the lock). Locking also utilizes social dances from the era such as the break down, the rock steady, and the funky robot.
In this class we will drill the vocabulary of locking, learn basic to intermediate patterns and combinations. This class will also focus on the soul dances that influence and improve our locking abilities, while focusing on playing with rhythm patterns and having fun in our freestyle.
